Success For Under-19s
24 July saw the Crows gather early in the morning at the Police Ground at the Bodyguard Lines in Alipore, Kolkata. The event was an under-19 tournament, the "Monsoon Sevens" co-organised by Future Hope and Kolkata Police. Crows players were out in force with a Crows under-19 team and Crows playing in their school teams also: Ashalayam Don Bosco and Armenian College.
The day turned out hugely successful for the Jungle Crows contingent! Each team played a series of three league matches. The Crows and Armenian College winning all their games, for a while there was a fear they would be drawn together in the semi finals but this didn't happen. In the semis the Crows faced Frank Anthony Day School and the Armenians played Future Hope. The Crows ran out 10-5 winners to proceed to the final but the Armenians weren't able to beat arch rivals Future Hope. Ashalayam Don Bosco proceeded to the Bowl competition after losing in a couple of their league games.
Games until the final had been played across the field but for the final the entire field was to be used! Ashalayam Don Bosco's final was first up and they played good controlled sevens to pick up the bowl trophy. In the main final the Crows weren't able to overcome top Kolkata side Future Hope and lost out 32-5.
A fantastic tournament was rounded up with presentations by Kolkata's top Police Officer, the Commissioner Prosun Mukherjee, in his presentation he paid special thanks to the Crows for their success, enthusiasm and spirit.
