Sagar Island is located at the end of the Hugli River in the Bay of Bengal about a 3 hour drive from Kolkata. Sagar is very rural area and part of the ecologically sensitive Sunderbans, which also houses a tiger reserve. Sagar is most famous for the massive Ganga Saga Mela which takes place on the island each year.

Our coach Sanjay is originally from Sagar Island and started coaching rugby there in the middle of 2005. Sanjay visits Sagar every 2/3 months and runs coaching sessions and keeps track on the progress the boys are making. Most of the games played are touch - as the pitch is normally baked hard and there are few local medical facitlities. We also try to get one or two boys to come from Sagar on a regular interval to train with us and will have two Sagar players in our squad for the 2006 season.

The boys of Sagar Island came to Kolkata in November 2005 to play in the London School of Commerce Tens where they reached the Bowl Final, losing out in the end to local team LMOB. LSC Kolkata Rugby Tens
